Phase I:  Quantitative Research Travel Schedule
The research team will be traveling extensively during the 2008-2009 academic year to the 12 HBCU accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).  Two-to-three member teams will travel to each of the institutions to implement the qualitative phase for this study.  The table below provides a tentative travel schedule for our research team:

Investigator Travel

  • International Centre for Innovation in Education (ICIE) 2008 Excellence in Education Conference:  Drs. Fred Bonner and Mary Alfred traveled to Paris, France in July 2-4, 2008 and presented a panel presentation entitled: Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Academically Gifted Black Students In Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM): Discovering the Alchemy for Success.   • STEM Education Summit in Washington DC:  Dr. Felecia M. Nave was invited to participate in the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) Stokes Institute Policy Summit on STEM Education for Low-Income Students on Wednesday, September 17, 2008.  The Policy Summit precedes the annual Council for Opportunity Conference that will be held September 18-20, 2008 at the Washington Hilton and Towers in Washington, DC.   • Bothers Of The Academy (BOTA) 2008 Think Tank for African American Progress: Dr. Chance Lewis,  The Conference will be held October 1-4, 2008 at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, TN.  The presentation entitled: Gifted African Americans in STEM @ HBCUs: An Empirical Investigation Examining the Keys to Success.  More information about the conference:  http://www.thinktankforprogress.org.
  • National Association for Gifted Children 55th Annual Convention:  The investigative team will travel to Tampa, FL October 30-November 2, 2008 to present An Empirical Investigation of the Success Factors Influencing Academically Gifted (High-Achieving) African American Students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.   • Texas Association for the Gifted & Talented 31st Annual Professional Development Conference:  The investigative team will travel to Dallas, TX November 12-14, 2008 to present Academically Gifted Black Students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
